Wednesday, 26 November 2008
Larne’s Under 16 player, Johnny Ogilby and Under 18 player, John O’Toole with Powerade Grassroots Development Officer, Nopera Stewart.
TOP Ulster Rugby players powered into Larne RFC this week as part of the Powerade Club grassroots programme.
The Powerade team and Ulster players visited the club to provide the Under 14 and Under 16 teams with their tried and tested training tips in a bid to encourage the never give up mentality, promoted by the Powerade brand.
The evening kicked off with a presentation on the benefits of prehydrating with Powerade before exercise in order to boost performance and stamina. This was followed by a chance to train with their heroes from the Ulster rugby team, Simon Danielli and Matt McCullough who were on hand to give advice to the young players.
Powerade, official sports drink of the Ulster Rugby Team, developed the programme to raise awareness amongst young players of the importance of prehydration before playing sport at any level. The initiative is underpinned by the Powerade Never Give Up campaign which recognises the spirit and endeavour of teams who play sport at a local club level.
Commenting on the evening, Powerade Grassroots Development Officer Nopera Stewart, said:
“Powerade is very proud of our strong relationship with Ulster Rugby. We are delighted to support rugby at a grassroots level by developing and enhancing the skills of up and coming local talent and encouraging Powerade's never give up mentality amongst players at all levels. The programme provides young people with the fantastic opportunity to meet and learn from the stars of Ulster rugby."
