LARNE Enterprise Development Organisation (LEDCOM) celebrated the Graduation for the Exploring Enterprise Programmes.
Due to the achievements and successes in 2009, news of three additional programmes for the Larne area, commencing in February 2010, was greatly welcomed by the audience. In particular, a Programme located in Carnlough will provide opportunity for rural development.
Eamonn Matthews, North East Region Project Officer stated, "This Programme shall prove invaluable to the local population by providing them with the opportunities to develop their self confidence and entrepreneurial skills.
“We would hope to see a follow through of participants onto the Enterprise Development Programme and potentially access some of the Rural Development funds which would be available to eligible participants.
“The North East Region support this initiative and would like to offer our full support to LEDCOM and all those participants."
The Exploring Enterprise is a FREE Programme, run over 8 half days. It is managed by Enterprise NI and part-financed by the European Social Fund and the Department for Employment and Learning.
For the new Programmes in the Larne area commencing February 2010 Larne Borough Council is providing match funding.
Linda McCullough, Director of Development, Larne Borough Council said, "Larne Borough Council is delighted to be able to support these important Programmes which are making a real difference in the lives of the participants.
“In challenging economic times this is very practical way for a local authority to help improve the quality of life for its residents."
At the event, Pauline Kirk, Exploring Enterprise Programme Manager for Enterprise Northern Ireland explained that these Programmes "aim to help people into sustainable employment or self employment through mentoring, training and by gaining a recognised qualification in Business Enterprise.
“Potential participants could be long term unemployed, lone parents, stay at home mums, people with disabilities or with low or no qualifications, young people not in education, older workers or those recently retired.
“There are no qualifications required to gain entry to the programme which is delivered at a pace specifically tailored to suit individual needs."
The successful participants receiving their Level 2 Certificates in Business Enterprise confirmed the benefits of the Programme, with 100% of them stating that they would they would recommend the Exploring Enterprise Programme to others.
The overall opinion from the 'participants of 2009' was that they have increased their confidence, improved their IT skills, enhanced their CVs and are now looking forward to new beginnings and career prospects in 2010. When receiving his Certificate, John Anderson highlighted that the programme offered great support on a one to one basis and has now opened new opportunities to explore. So, are you unemployed?
